Privacy Policy

The Usual for iPhone and iPad · Effective September 2026

The Usual does not collect, store, or share any personal information. I, the developer, never receive anything you enter into the app.

What the app stores

The restaurants, visits, dishes, prices, ratings, and notes you enter, including the names you add to "who ordered", are saved on your device. If iCloud is turned on for The Usual, they are also stored in the private area of your own iCloud account so they sync between your devices. That data is held by Apple under Apple's Privacy Policy, and I have no access to it.

Deleting a restaurant or visit in the app deletes it from your device and from iCloud. Deleting the app removes the copy on that device; your iCloud copy remains until you delete it.

Location

If you allow it, The Usual uses your location while you're using the app to fill in a restaurant's address and to center the map on where you are. To turn coordinates into an address, or an address into a place on the map, the app uses Apple Maps, which means that location or address is sent to Apple to look it up. Your location isn't tracked in the background, and it isn't sent to me. You can change this at any time in Settings › Privacy & Security › Location Services.

Camera and receipt scanning

If you allow it, the camera is used only in the Scan tab to read receipts. The text on the receipt is recognized and interpreted entirely on your device using Apple Intelligence. The photo is not saved and is not sent anywhere. Only the details you choose to keep, such as the restaurant name and dishes, are saved as a visit.

What the app doesn't do

Children

Because The Usual collects no personal information, it collects none from children.

Changes

If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted on this page with a new effective date.
