Getting started

  1. Tap + on the Home or List tab to log a visit. Pick a restaurant you've been to before, or type a new name.
  2. Add up to five dishes, with prices and star ratings if you like. Tap Add more details for the date, notes, the restroom rating, and who ordered each dish.
  3. Save. The restaurant shows up on the Home tab, in the List, and on the Map once it has an address.
  4. Tap a restaurant to see every visit, what you ordered, and its average rating. Tap a visit to edit it.

Scanning receipts

The Scan tab reads a receipt with your camera and fills in the restaurant, the dishes, and their prices for you. Hold the receipt flat in the frame; the camera captures it automatically once it's steady. Check what it found, then save the visit as usual.

Scanning uses Apple Intelligence, and everything happens on your device. The photo of the receipt isn't saved.

FAQ

The Scan tab says it isn't available. Receipt scanning needs an iPhone or iPad that supports Apple Intelligence, with Apple Intelligence turned on in Settings. Right after you turn it on, the model may still be downloading; try again in a little while. Everything else in the app works without it.

How do I search by rating? Type something like "4 stars" or "4+" in the search field to see only places rated four or better. You can also search by restaurant name or by a dish you ordered.

A restaurant isn't on the map. The map only shows restaurants with an address. Open the restaurant, tap Edit, then tap the restaurant's details at the top to add one.

My visits aren't showing up on my other device. The Usual syncs through your iCloud account. Make sure both devices are signed in to the same Apple Account and that iCloud is turned on for The Usual in Settings. Syncing can take a few minutes.

Why does the app ask for my location? To fill in a restaurant's address while you're there, and to center the map on where you are. You can say no; you'll just type addresses yourself.

How do I delete something? Swipe left on a restaurant in the List tab to delete it along with all of its visits. To delete a single visit, open the restaurant, tap Edit, and tap the red minus next to the visit. Deletions sync to your other devices.

Requirements

iPhone or iPad running iOS 26.2 or later. Receipt scanning additionally requires a device that supports Apple Intelligence.

Privacy

The Usual doesn't collect any data. What you log stays on your devices and in your own iCloud account. Read the privacy policy.
